Agrifoods International Cooperative Ltd. Fined for Worker Injury
CANADA, October 9 - Released on October 9, 2026
On September 29, 2026, Agrifoods International Cooperative Ltd. pleaded guilty in Saskatoon Provincial Court to a violation of The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020.
The company was charged with contravening subsection 11-2(2) of the regulations (being an employer, fail to ensure that only trained operators are required or permitted to operate powered mobile equipment, resulting in a serious injury of a worker). Two additional charges were withdrawn.
As a result, the Court imposed a fine of $71,428.57, along with a victim fine surcharge of $28,571.43, for a total fine of $100,000.
The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on November 20, 2023, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. A worker was seriously injured, after being pinched between a semi tractor and a milk tanker trailer while working as a wash bay attendant.
The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety works with employers and workers to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses through education, intervention and enforcement.
